We hear the phrase "self-love" all the time, but have you ever stopped to ask yourself what does that really mean? And more importantly how does it specifically apply to you in your daily life?
Self-love is pretty simple. It means caring for yourself the same way you'd take care of your child, spouse, or friend. You don't expect them to be perfect all of the time. You tell them it's ok when they make a mistake and you love them fully - flaws and all. You make sure they get enough sleep, eat nutritious meals, have clean clothes to wear, and most impotantly that they feel happy and good about themselves. You uplift them when they are going through a tough time. You forgive easily. And you support them wholeheartedly.
All self-love really means is treating yourself with the same love and compassion you show others on a daily basis. You matter. And you are infinitely more capable to being a better mother, spouse, friend, co-worker, etc. when you feel good about yourself.
There is nothing narcissistic about it. Practicing self-love leads to strength, confidence, happiness, and increased self-esteem.
It manifests itself differently in each person. To some, it may mean coming to terms with insecurities and learning to feel comfortable with who you are inspite of any "flaws." For others, it may be taking more time for yourself - eating better, spending time with your girlfriends, going for walks, or buying yourself that new dress every once in a while. It is doing things that make you feel whole. Things that make you feel like the best version of yourself whatever that may be.
If you're in need of a little more self-love in your life be sure to read more about the challenge Dani Nicole Photography and her gorgeous model and badass babe Chrystal have in store for all of you!
From the Photographer | I was hooked up with Chrystal - the model below, as well as entrepreneur extraordinaire, self love guru, unicorn lover, founder of Rebellia Clothing and the Hey Little Rebel blog, and all around badass - through a friend of a friend who thought I would be a good fit for a photography project and nationwide self love challenge she was spearheading. After chatting with her publicist and Chrystal, we decided to move forward with an empowerment shoot featuring the rockstar herself, as a way to bring awareness and exposure to the #RebelliaSelfLoveChallenge, but also to show participants what's on the line if they complete the challenge and are chosen as the grand prize winner... an empowerment photo shoot with yours truly, plus a slew of other amazing prizes. That's right, no matter where you live, you'll be flown to the good 'ol Queen City, and we'll get to celebrate together the work you've invested in yourself in a beautifully visual way.
"Finding love for myself has been one of the biggest game changers of my life. I wear my skin now like a perfectly tailored suit, no matter what I weigh, what I eat, who I’m with, or what I’ve accomplished. I wish I could sprinkle this shit on every woman I come in contact with, because I meet so many who need it, and it hurts me that they can’t see how beautiful every piece of them truly is. So I created the #rebelliaselflovechallenge to combat the epidemic of women who simply don’t love themselves enough - or at all. I created it to give them the space to develop or add to their very own self-love, in their own unique and beautiful way." - Chrystal
As I'm so passionate about self love and encouraging women to love the skin they're in, this project is near and dear to my heart, and I'm beyond honored that I get to be a part of it, not only as a photographer, but as a strong and confident woman who also is partaking in the challenge, right alongside thousands of women all over the world. If your interest is piqued, and you want to start looking at yourself in the mirror with excitement, passion, and contentment, then this is the space for you.
